Drawing and Painting

Painting has been an outlet throughout my life, especially in high school. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent a lot of time learning to paint. From “painting for dummies” books to youtube tutorials, I gradually improved my skills and found so much joy in creativity.

In college, while I am not painting quite as much as I was in high school, I spontaneously signed up for an introductory drawing class Sophomore year and ended up enjoying it a ton. I had never drawn before, but in this class I learned so much, including that I love to draw!

Figure Drawing

This was my first time drawing people, and having two models come into my drawing class was a great opportunity for me to learn how to render muscle mass, movement, tone and position with charcoal.

Heaven

I don’t know much about the afterlife. But a few days after my Great Grandma passed away, I was inspired to explore what heaven might look like. This is what I came up with.

Under the Sea

Visiting the aquarium has always been a treat. I’ve always been mesmerized by the vibrant colors that come through in almost magical ways. Here, I explored the world under the sea, experimenting with the presence of light. The outcome highlights the jellyfish, a sea creature I happen to love.

Holiday Lights

Sure, summer is warm and free. But between the crispy weather forcing us to wear cozy sweaters and the festivities, winter will always be my favorite season. Here, I wanted to reflect the joy I experience during the Holiday season.

Autumn

Here I ran an experiment, using only the warm side of the color wheel.

Glass Bottles

I love drawing with pencil because of the opportunity it has for generating texture and tone. In this drawing of glass bottles, I used graphite to create reflection, light, shadows, volume, shape and perspective, using only one tool. My little pencil has so much power!

The Kitchen

The room in my house that I picture first when I think of home.

Teddy Bear

I got to play with texture in this drawing, making the softness of the teddy bear come to life.

Snowy Night

I’ve always loved “Frosty the Snowman” and have a distinct memory of the snowy forest in the animated classic. Here, I’ve recreated that peaceful forest during sunset.

Portrait of a Woman

Based off a photo. In this drawing, I wanted to capture the woman’s emotion in my drawing as well as I could.

Lemon

I’m proud of my first attempt at still life style painting. This has recently become a style I enjoy because of the way you can bring an inanimate object to life simply through shadows and highlights.

London Dorm Room

I spent my Freshman Fall semester of college studying abroad in London. Leaving my family at the gate before moving across the world, I was terrified, worried I would never find comfort anywhere but my home in New York. On the last night of my semester, my bed looked so peaceful, and I realized that I found comfort in my bedroom in London as well. I took a photo of my dorm room, and drew it in my drawing class at Hamilton.
